Xiamen Travel Guide
Xiamen, or many tourists may call it Amoy, is located at southeast tip of Fujian Province. Composed of Xiamen Island, Gulangyu Island, Haicang Peninsula, Jimei Peninsula, Xiang'an Peninsular, Tongan, Jiulongjiu,etc. Xiamen is a port scenic city. Xiamen is praised as a charming "Garden on the Sea" for the city is sitting on the sea, while the azure sea is crossing the city.

Weather & When to Go
Xiamen has a subtropical monsoon climate, mild temperature with lots of rain. Annual average temperature is around 21℃, no chilly winter nor hot summer. Annual average rainfall is around 1200mm, and May to August is the rainy season. Xiamen will be hit by typhoons 4 ~ 5 times a year, and most of the typhoons hit between July and September.
With a lot of sunshine and mild temperature all year round, Xiamen has green trees and colorful flowers in the four seasons. Most flowers blossom in spring and autumn; summer is suitable to play on the beach, winter is quiet with rather warm temperature. However, it will be hit by typhoons around August, and the flight may be canceled and some attractions will be closed during the typhoon weather. So make sure you check the weather forecast before the trip.
Xiamen has a very convenient transportation, and tourists can get there by flight, train, bus and ship. Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is located at the northeast of Xiamen Island, only 10km to the city center, and it's a important transportation hub in China. At present, there are 17 international airlines, including airlines to Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Hong Kong, etc. It also has flights to 58 domestic cities.
Travelers can also take trains to Xiamen, and there are two railway stations in Xiamen: Xiamen Railway Station and Xiamen North Railway Station. The railway station connects Xiamen with major domestic cities, like Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Chongqing, Fuzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou, etc.
Besides flight and train, ferry ship is also g good choice. Xiamen has ship lines to Shantou, Guanghzou, Hainan, Dalian, Tianjin, Shanghai, Zhenjiang, etc. In every Wednesday afternoon, Xiamen has ship to Hong Kong, and Hong Kong to Xiamen ship line is in the afternoon of every Tuesday.
To travel around Xiamen, tourists can take public bus, taxi or Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to travel around. To get to Gulangyu Island, tourists need to take ferry ship from Xiamen Island to there, and this only takes several minutes.
Xiamen has various accommodations, from luxurious hotels to economic hotels and to youth hostels and home inns, and the price differs from ¥100 to ¥1000. Besides the international chains, like Kempinski, Westin, Indigo and other luxurious hotels, the biggest feature of Xiamen accommodation is its family inn. Find a small family inn and enjoy a relaxing and lazy trip in there, this is the real Xiamen. Both Xiamen Island and Gulangyu Island have many family inns, and the price ranges from ¥100 to ¥300.
